Recently, I came across this concept thanks to a friend of mine who is also into art. Master practices are art studies designed to help you get better at drawing.

A practice made for the concept of Master Practices

The concept of Master Practices talks about a study where it is more efficient to look at art you like — for example, the chibi in this image — then trying to recreate a part of it without looking at it.

This time, I worked on the face of the chibi, since that’s what caught my attention more.

After failing (as expected) by making the eyes way too big — it seems to be a thing of mine — then after making your “wrong copy”, you start to fix it.

By comparing to the original, I have to remove like half the eyes, but it certainly looked more like the original, and the point in doing this is to:

The point of this exercise is simple: Be aware.

A lot of the decisions we make when making art can be: Not intentional, and we have to work on that.

When making this practice, I made a Pinterest board called “Chibi Inspiration” to help me seek inspiration and possible study subjects.
