How to start drawing with a list

You want to start drawing again? After a long period, one thing you can do is to complete a list, maybe of a theme you like, or a random one, and do drawings based on that.

I recently finished my small art project of drawing 12 cats with the theme Halloween

And I wanted to keep going, my objective right now is to complete at least 90 days of continuous drawing, at the moment of writing this, we are at 29 days, and that makes me happy, not because of the days remaining but because of the days that have passed already.

Do you remember or have you heard of Inktober?  It was a big thing some years ago.

It was meant to make any kind of artist follow a list and just do art (mostly with ink style) based on the recommended theme of each day of October.

Why Ink? Because it doesn’t involve color or shading, just a drawing, and that’s all.

For those who want to draw again, or want to start, it’s easier to eliminate from their mind, a lot of things at once.

You have a theme, you have a style, and you have variety.

Keep it simple to make it real

Draw with this list of themes

A list of 30 Drawing Ideas to make, just words that functions as themes.
List of 30 Drawing Ideas you can make to draw again

I made this list so I don’t lose focus and keep drawing. If you want, you can also follow the drawing I’m already making from the list to get ideas or to inspire you.

Just remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect; it’s better to make it exist first and later make it better, just as what happened with me on days that didn’t want to draw or days that didn’t have much time. Play the longer game.

My examples from the list

I hope the work I made in this effort to keep drawing inspires you in some way, or that you like to see these drawings I made.

List:

  1. Bloom
  2. Shadow
  3. Whisper
  4. Rust
  5. Float
  6. Spark

1 - Bloom

For this idea  i went practical but also artistic. A flower blooming from the chest to show a good heart and feeling, even if she doesn’t get it at first.

2 - Shadow

For Shadow, I wanted to play with the idea of someone else as your shadow, like always there but completely different. The idea of the Greek dresses was mostly because I wanted it to end in just one color, and I think it goes well with that.

3 - Whisper

I remembered a song from Skillet called “Whispers in the Dark”, and I went with the idea that the whispers are from demons and monsters, so I needed someone afraid of them, and that’s how these cute girls became part of the drawing

4 - Rust

The point of rust is simple: Decay. I want to mostly focus on cute girls or adorable drawings, but getting out of the comfort zone once in a while is good. So instead of a female android, I made this old robot, with a sad story you can see in his smile.

5 - Float

When I said, Just draw I meant it. The day of making “Float” wasn’t a good day, and I didn’t have much time to work with, so it ended up just in sketch style, and it’s ok, maybe later I’ll remake her or just color it. Who knows.

6 - Spark

For Spark I went a little crazier. I remembered why I liked big eyes. It has something to do with my years of learning from YouTube videos of the Artist KNKL. I changed a little the lighting method and investigated a little about clothes, but yes, crazy was my first instinct with the theme
